Education

Our children have not always had a positive experience of mainstream school and can become highly distressed when put in a similar situation.

Because of this, we have to be flexible in our approaches and sensitive to the needs of the children. Each child has an individualised educational programme which follows the normal primary school curriculum but at a pace the child can cope with and with all the additional support required.

We focus on the personal and social development of children and use nurturing principles to achieve this. If we want a child to engage in the learning and teaching process it is extremely important that we provide them with a positive educational experience.

Our education team

Our education team is led by the Head of Education, who is responsible for:

All staff have regular in-service training.

The children are taught in four classes, all of which operate to nurture group principles. Each class has a qualified teacher and a classroom assistant. In addition, a member of care staff is assigned to each class in the morning to help out with activities.

Our school day

The children are in school from 9am until 2.30pm, with a 15 minute break during the morning. Lunch is from 12.30 until 1.15pm.

This schedule has been developed to give the children the opportunity to socialise in a variety of settings. All breaks are supervised by six members of staff and are activity-based.
