Terms of residency
We cater for a variety of children who come to us on a variety of flexible residential arrangements which can change as the child's needs change.
All placements are kept under regular review; changes are made when all parties agree that they are appropriate.
Seamab works with families, educational psychologists and social workers and offers to local authorities integrated care and education packages which are individually tailored to meet the needs of each child.
When some children come to Seamab they have no family contact and are with us all the time. We try to establish contact with their family, or an alternative family, as quickly as possible. We help to support and develop this contact so that, eventually, the child can return to family life in the community.
We hold a review six weeks from the admission date and, subsequently, at six monthly intervals. A core group, including the child's key worker and teacher, meets in between reviews at six-weekly intervals. We can call reviews outwith this schedule if there is cause for concern.
Reviews are attended by parents, home-based professionals, Seamab staff and anyone else who has a recognised interest or involvement with the child.
There is also an expectation that the child will attend. We help and support the children to do this but, if they find it too difficult, we make arrangements so that their views are heard. Seamab has developed a range of ways of helping children to prepare their own reports for review meetings and to make sure their views are heard.
