"Seeing the architect's drawings become real classrooms—spaces designed around how our children learn best—is incredibly moving. This building will help our young people feel safe, regulate and re-engage with learning. It simply would not exist without an exceptionally generous community of supporters across Scotland and the UK."
Stuart Provan, Chief Executive
Our new school
For more than 40 years, Seamab has provided residential care and specialist education for children who have experienced significant adversity. Our new school turns that experience into a building: a place where safety, curiosity and progress are part of everyday life.
Safety
A place where children can regulate and feel secure
Curiosity
Spaces that invite learning and exploration
Progress
An environment where success feels achievable
Why a new school?
Although well-loved, the previous school building was a converted house that lacked basic facilities. The new school removes these barriers so the environment is calmer and there is more room for ambition in what can be achieved.
Before
Converted house
No dining or assembly space
Narrow corridors
Classrooms not age-appropriate
After
Purpose-built learning spaces
Calm circulation
Room for ambition and growth

What's inside

Six classrooms designed from a trauma-informed perspective
Each classroom has nearby quiet spaces for one-to-one and small-group support spaces where the need to seek out such spaces comes without stigma.

Landscaped outdoor spaces
Connecting the curriculum with nature and providing space for outdoor growing, learning and play.

Multi-purpose gym hall
For physical activities, assemblies and dining— a place to bring the whole school community together— which is even equipped with its own indoor trampoline room.

Light-filled corridors
Designed as reading and play areas, extending learning beyond the classroom.

Specialist rooms
Dedicated spaces for creative and practical learning, from art and textiles to woodwork, music and life skills.
Educational impact
The new environment directly improves how children engage, attend and achieve.
Our new school integrates education, therapy and care. Every design choice supports regulation and focus so that children arrive ready to learn, stay engaged longer and experience success that they can see and feel.
