Referring to Seamab

If you have a young person in mind and believe Seamab may be the right fit, we would welcome a conversation.

We are happy to discuss potential referrals informally before any paperwork is submitted.

Our approach is collaborative, transparent and focused on ensuring the right placement for the child.

Who we support

We support children and young people aged 5–18 from across Scotland who:

  • Have experienced significant trauma or adversity

  • Are unable to live at home

  • Require specialist residential care and education

  • Would benefit from an integrated care, education, and therapeutic model

  • Need a higher level of support than mainstream provision can offer

Ages 5–13

Main campus

Our main care campus is set within a natural, wooded environment and is ideally suited to children aged 5–13.

The campus includes three family-style houses where children can play, learn, explore and have fun in a safe and nurturing setting. Access to outdoor space supports regulation, curiosity and a sense of freedom.

Ages 13–18+

Linlithgow service

Opened in June 2023, our Linlithgow service is a carefully restored country farmhouse designed to support older children and young people to grow with us until the age of 18 and beyond, where appropriate.

By reducing unnecessary moves, young people are supported to feel safe, settled and able to focus on their future.

What we provide

  • Safe, nurturing residential care

  • Specialist trauma-informed education

  • Multi-disciplinary therapeutic support

  • Outdoor learning and adventure opportunities

  • Personalised learning pathways

  • Family support, where appropriate and safe

Our teams work together to ensure children receive coordinated, holistic support.

The referral process

We aim to make the process clear and supportive.

Step 1

Initial conversation

Contact us to discuss the young person’s needs. This can be informal and exploratory.

Step 2

Referral information

If appropriate, we will request detailed background information, including:

  • Care history

  • Educational background and needs

  • Therapeutic or medical information

  • Current circumstances

  • Identified support requirements

Step 3

Assessment

We review all information carefully to determine whether we can meet the young person’s needs and whether Seamab is the right environment for them.

Step 4

Planning

If a placement is agreed, we work collaboratively to plan a safe and supported transition.

Step 5

Transition and settling in

We prioritise emotional safety and take time to help each child settle at a pace that works for them.

Information for parents and carers

If you are a parent or carer, we understand that a referral can bring mixed emotions.

Our team is available to answer questions and provide reassurance. Where it is appropriate and safe to do so, we support children to maintain meaningful family connections.

You are welcome to contact us directly to discuss any concerns.
