Claire Masterson

Head of Education

Claire has almost 30 years of teaching experience across a wide range of schools and educational settings, giving her extensive classroom expertise as well as significant leadership experience. She has previously held posts as Principal Teacher and Acting Depute Head, which have enabled her to develop strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of school improvement and staff development. Claire is passionate about ensuring that all pupils are supported to reach their full potential. She places great importance on building positive, trusting relationships and promoting a child-led approach to learning. She is committed to ensuring that pupils’ educational needs are met through personalised pathways tailored to their individual interests, skills and strengths. Through working with each child holistically, each learner can progress at their own their own pace. Claire has a strong understanding of attachment styles and trauma-informed practice and actively seeks opportunities to further develop her knowledge of educational pedagogy. Claire holds an MSc in Professional Education and Leadership from the University of Stirling. This learning strengthened her understanding of leading with empathy and deepened her knowledge of research-informed pedagogical approaches. Claire joined Seamab in January 2022 and has since worked as a Class Teacher, Acting Principal Teacher and, most recently, Head of Education. She successfully led the school through an HMIe inspection and remains committed to ensuring Seamab continues to maintain high expectations for learners while providing the support they need to develop essential life skills and seize future opportunities. Claire feels privileged to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals who are deeply committed to supporting the remarkable pupils in their care.
